The Obelisk is located in the intersection of 9th of July Ave. and Corrientes Ave; two of the most important avenues in the city of Buenos Aires. Created by Alberto Prebisch, it was inaugurated in 1936, after 60 days of work in which 157 workers participated, to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the first foundation of Buenos Aires. It was originally covered with slabs of white calcareous stone from Córdoba, which in 1939 were replaced by plaster, as some of them came off. In addition, it is the main stage of the historical events of Buenos Aires; and from its summit, you can get the best views of the city. In this place the national flag was hoisted for the first time in the province of Buenos Aires.
